Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammation of the fibrous band of connective tissue (plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot. The condition usually develops when repeated weight-bearing activities, such as prolonged standing or running, put a strain on the plantar fascia, causing pain. The pain can be felt at the heel, the arch and/or the ball of your foot particularly when taking your first steps in the morning. It may feel like a stabbing pain or sensation of tightness/tenderness.
